The Freddy Colon Quartet featuring legendary Candido Camero

Named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2008, legendary Cuban-American percussionist Candido Camero joins Rochester’s popular Freddy Colon Jazz Quartet for a memorable engagement. Credited with being the first percussionist to bring conga drumming to jazz, Candido is acclaimed for his contributions to the development of mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1921, he has performed with seemingly everybody in the jazz including Tony Bennett, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel and Slide Hampton, Charles Mingus, Wes Montgomery, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, and Clark Terry among many others.

Rochester-based Freddy Colon has appeared frequently with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as well as with many major city orchestras throughout the United States. He has performed with many acclaimed artists including Tito Puente, Aretha Franklin, Tito Rojas, Jerry Rivera, Ray Sepulveda, Tito Allen, El Cano Estremera, Soneros del Barrio, Hector Tricoche, Paquito Acosta, Kevin Ceballo, Zafra Negra.
